Set to open in September this year, the US $4.2 billion Dubai Metro, the Arabian peninsular’s first intra-city commuter rail system, is a landmark development for the rapidly expanding city and its highly congested roads.
In fact, the system will be more than just a means of conveying commuters to their jobs whilst clearing the blocked highways; the Metro is considered fundamental to Dubai’s future economic expansion and prosperity. Peyman Younes Parham, director of marketing at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority recently said that “the whole movement of Dubai will be pinned on the Metro.
Connoisseurs of rapid transit systems the world over will be impressed by the variety of styles and formats that the system embraces. Comprised mainly of futuristic raised viaducts but also incorporating ground level and subterranean sections, the Dubai Metro will give a distinctive edge to the city’s skyline. Themed
